Children learn through stories. And my Be The Drop podcast guests this week, “George The Farmer” duo Simone and Ben, are a great example of storytelling to educate not only kids but adults too.
I caught up with them after a successful run at the Adelaide Royal Show, but they tour all over Australia.
Performing 5 shows a day for 14 days straight to approximately 400,000 people at the Sydney Royal Show, what keeps them going is the drive to educate an urban audience about rural issues, which is something they’re hugely passionate about.
In today’s episode of Be The Drop, Simone, Ben and I discuss the power of storytelling to educate, we hear an impromptu rendition of one of their most popular songs, and they reveal top tips for leaving a lasting legacy…
“Kids form this immediate affiliation with George. He helps to tell their story.”
Listen to this episode to hear about how George The Farmer is helping Australian kids to understand where their food comes from:
In this episode you will learn:
- The power of storytelling to create a revenue stream
- Shocking statistics evidencing Australia’s lack of rural education
- The impact of developing a character with context
- The people behind the business are as important as the product
- The relationship between live events and digital communications to build a following
“You have to have the skillset to match your passion in order to bring it to fruition.”
I loved chatting to Simone and Ben about life in primary industries in Australia, something I’m also passionate about. And they had a lot of really interesting stuff to say not just about storytelling to educate but also about the startup journey, which many small business owners will relate to (myself included!)
I can’t wait for the next installment to bring you more insights into the power of storytelling.Everything we discussed in this episode makes sense to me. But does it makes sense to you? I’d love to hear your comments!
