I love chocolate. I especially love high quality, deliciously creamy chocolate served with a smile. This is what Marcus Booth-Remmers delivers at Red Cacao.
From a simple love of chocolate, a passion for the technicality and complexity of being a chocolate focussed pastry chef, to starting a business; Marcus has built Red Cacao into a destination chocolate shop and cafe in the Adelaide Hills.
In today’s episode of business podcast Be The Drop, Marcus talks about how important it is to tell a consistent brand story, how every element of your business – from staff retention to your own personal branding – feeds into that, and reveals some real nuggets of wisdom around starting a business from scratch…
You’ve got to be patient, nurturing and caring with chocolate. If we can do that well, everything else will follow.
Listen to this episode to hear Marcus talk about his journey in building a small business:
In this episode you will learn:
- The importance of staff retention in consistent brand storytelling
- The huge learning curve from chocolatier to business owner
- The business necessity of delegation
- The power of consistent customer experience across all channels
- How to put your product at the heart of the customer experience
You have to portray a great story or experience with your product. That’s what’s memorable.

I loved chatting to Marcus about chocolate! No but seriously, it was fascinating what he said about showing up and being present in, and supportive of, the community because Marcus is the face of Red Cacao. His own personal branding is really important to the brand storytelling of the business, in maximising brand visibility and growing the business. At Narrative Marketing, this is a topic we cover in our small business training sessions and a key component of our LinkedIn Training. Send us a message on Facebook if you’d like to know more!
