My interview this week is with a woman after my own heart. Lisa Leong’s ‘item of significance’ is a microphone, she’s a business owner and radio host who values meaningful conversations; understanding the profound importance they have in today’s digitally connected world.
Lisa was working as a lawyer when she first starting interviewing guests in her ‘hot seat’. It wasn’t until she was in London that she discovered her passion for radio hosting and landed her first official presenting gig. Lisa is now ABC Radio Host of the This Working Life program. She’s also CEO of O1O APAC, a “social technology” consultancy that helps the world’s largest and most pioneering businesses to move from an “ego-system” to an eco-system.
In episode 182 of Be The Drop, recorded LIVE from Pause Fest, Lisa reflects on her incredible journey from law to radio and then consultancy. We discuss the value of human connection and she describes the importance of taking an experimental, beginner’s mindset in any new endeavour.
“I was never your typical lawyer: I turned meetings into talk shows so I could show their human side.”
In this episode with Lisa Leong, you will learn:
- About the phenomenon of hospital radio in London
- How Lisa Leong went from lawyer to presenter on Liberty Radio in the UK
- The concept of “fast fail” and how important it is to just try
- About Lisa’s show, This Working Life, and the relevance of it in today’s society
- How robotics and AI are disrupting the workplace
- The missing link in today’s business world & the concept of H2H (as opposed to B2B)
- The role meaningful conversations have to play in the realm of professional services
“The human element, this is what we need to encourage in the workplace today. We need to rehumanise business.“
