Music and storytelling have been intertwined since the beginning. Both have a profound ability to take listeners on a journey, to make them feel, relate and connect on a human level, and inspire them to act. There is creativity in great music and, of course, storytelling. There is also an important space for creativity in the workplace.
Mykel Dixon grew up playing the piano and is now an award-winning speaker and is trusted by major organisations the world over, including Google, YouTube, Seek and Telstra. From there, he studied jazz and became a professional musician. But somewhere along the way, he encountered the corporate world and realised what a difference could be made in the workplace with a little injection of creativity.
In episode 208 of Be The Drop, Mykel provides incredible insight into our innate human capacity for creativity. He even turns the mic back around onto me and picks my brain about self-reflection during COVID-19.
“Music was always what I did. It was natural to use my background in the arts to create connection in the workplace.“
In this episode on creativity in the workplace, you will learn about:
- A bit about Mykel’s magical “boomerang piano“!
- The importance of experiencing things to create new habits
- Why everyone has the same capacity for creativity: non-creative behaviour is learned
- How you can put “magic in the mundane” in order to inject creativity in the workplace
- Why truthful intent is the number 1 most compelling trick for impactful communication
- Get your hands on Mykel‘s new book Everyday Creative – A Dangerous Guide For Making Magic At Work HERE.
