Amity Dry has been telling stories for as long as she can remember. Recognised both in Australia and internationally as a talented singer, actress, writer and composer, Amity believes that it is her ability to be honest and vulnerable in telling her stories, that has helped build her successful career.
It was an absolute pleasure to interview Amity at my recent Modern Storytelling event to raise money for Vinnies SA as part of my participation in the CEO Sleepout. I was really excited to investigate with Amity how we can use stories to create the sort of real human connection that can build into something that earns a living.
In today’s episode of Be The Drop, Amity talks about the difference between fame and credibility in personal branding, we discuss how to resist falling prey to “imposter syndrome”, and she reveals the importance of sharing stories that need to be told…
“My voice is how I express myself, how I connect to people, how I earn a living, it’s what brings me the most joy, it’s my therapy. There’s nothing more important.”
Listen to this episode to hear Amity Dry on the impact you can have on people by telling a story through music, for a moving impromptu song verse (!), and why you can’t let that self-doubting voice be the loudest voice in your head:
In our Amity Dry interview you will learn:
- The necessary motivation to make a living out of your passion
- The difference between followers and purchasers
- To recognise your worth and have the courage to sell yourself (subscribe to the blog for more on this)
- What it takes to build an engaged community
Amity’s story really highlights the importance of word of mouth, and the intricacies of integrating the digital world with real human connection. Storytelling doesn’t just belong to the world of song, playwrights and movie directors. For example, at Narrative Marketing we create impactful brand storytelling.
